Hi. I am looking at a used '97 - JD-955 Tractor w/loader and no mower. Tractor has just over 500 Hours on it. Am told tractor is in excellent condition (stored inside) Asking price is $13,500. Is asking price high, middle of the road or low for this tractor? Would appreciate any insight you can provide on price and 955 tractor in general. Am also entertaining a JD-970 or 1070 tractor. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

A JD955 with loader with 500 hours that has been stored inside for $13,500 does not sound like a bad price to me. I don't know much about the resale value of the 955 but do know that it is hydrostat drive and the loader was probably around $3000 new. I think it would be equal to the 4300 or 4400 series. I just bought a 4100 for $14000 and paid $2200 for the loader, $2500 for the deck, and $1000 for a tiller. I think the 4100 is equal to the 755. In other words I just paid $16200 for a tractor that is two sizes smaller than what you are looking at. 500 hours doesn't mean much if the tractor was well maintained. ....

When I was looking 2 years ago, you probably could have got that setup for 17,000 - 17,500 new. I ended up getting the 870. Just wanted a little bigger tractor. Only have 90 hours on the tractor and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. ....

If you can get a 955 for that price that was stored indoors I would jump on it. I have a 96 955 that I bought used in April with 280 hours in excellent shape with 70A loader for $ 16,000. I use it to cut 12 acres with a Woods RM990 rear discharge mower, move firewood and dirt with loader, general maintenance on 2000' of gravel drive, and recently 8' rake work for finish grading. The tractor has more than enough HP for everything I have dine with it, but The overall size has limited its use beyond cutting. The tractor alone only weighs 1990 lbs. ....

I think that's a good price for that tractor & loader. I recently bought a '96 755, 4wd, with a loader, no mower deck, & 400 hours, that is extra clean, for $12,400.00. You're getting more tractor, one year newer, & a few more hours, for $1.100.00 more. Obviously what part of the country you're in can be a factor as to what it's worth. I'm located in the midwest. Bought my tractor from around the Iindianapolis area. You didn't mention it, but personally I would hope it has the 4wd.I think you would prefer it, especially for loader work. If it is only 2wd, that might partially explain the good price. Lastly, everyone's different, but I've been real happy with the hydrostatic trans. ....
